Christmas is well and truly over; the New Year is here, and we settle down to deepening our knowledge and understanding of Jesus, and our part in His message of Good News.

In the reading (John 1:29-42) we are at the beginning of Jesus’ earthly ministry. John the Baptist proclaims Jesus as the Messiah, and baptizes Him. Then, how the message of accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour, together with living with Him and learning Kingdom values, starts to spread!

In His ministry Jesus meets with many individuals, preaches to great crowds, trains his disciples and debates with religious leaders.  Those who really meet Jesus, receive healing and wholeness, and are truly changed. They really know in the depths of their hearts His love, comfort and guidance, This change shines out as a testimony to others.

A beautiful journey - walking with Jesus to Jesus!  Being in God / abiding with God, and actually living the life-giving message.

The reading gives us much inspiration; to inspire and guide us:

  • John the Baptist, preparing the way of the Lord - Do we?

  • John the Baptist, testifying that Jesus is the ‘One’ the world needs, and that He is the Lamb of God - Do we give a good testimony and encourage others as we are encouraged, to ‘seek and find’ Jesus?

  • John the Baptist demonstrates his humility by letting Jesus take his rightful place, while he is willing to fade into the background - Are we content to do the things our God wants us to do, and let the honour go to Jesus?

  • The disciples follow Jesus and are invited to ‘Come and see’.  They do and as a result they can’t wait to tell others - Do we accept Jesus’ invitation to ‘Come and See’, to ‘seek and find’.

What a wonderful way to start a new year!
