Advent is… Finding

Christmas brings all sorts of thoughts  and hopes.  I like to think of it as a Christmas longing. The story of the nativity brings with it an invitation; to go to the manger, see Jesus with his mother Mary, and with Joseph, to find Him with the Shepherds, and to come from lands afar and worship and bring gifts with the Wise Men.

Finding Jesus; Lord and Saviour, The Light of the World and God with us (Immanuel).  Indeed, the Bible is full of people seeking and finding God, and in the Gospels about meeting Jesus.  There are many instances of people meeting Jesus in a crowd, in family life, or in loneliness and sickness, and the closeness of being chosen by Him and accompanying Him through life… actually, seeing Jesus with others, working his miracles, thinking about His teaching, and then the personal encounters. What a difference they make to each one who has had Jesus touch them, or look at them.

The good news is that Jesus’ message of good news is for each one of us.  Jesus didn’t come as a conquering hero on a white charger, but was born as a vulnerable baby, who had to be taken as a refugee to another country, who worked and learned a trade, and then one day leaving that behind to show us what a life of living with God is, the blessings of living His way, of receiving healing and wholeness, dying for each of us.  On the way to Jerusalem and the Cross Jesus was hated by some, spat on, and cruelly treated.  There is nothing that happens to us in our lives that He cannot understand. He shows us how to ride the storms of life in His victory and His peace.

Jesus is alive and meets us in the God breathed words of our Bibles, and by His Holy Spirit.

From what far off places are we coming from?  Disbelief, lack of trust, thinking we are not good enough?  Knowing that our deeds and thoughts are far from a holy God?  All can be placed at the foot of the Cross and we can walk into a new life with Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” Matthew 13:44-46 New International Version (NIV)

JESUS is our TREASURE.  He is our wealth, our riches, of greater value than anything. Meet with Jesus, spend time with Him, receive from Him.

Know that You are loved.
